Strain-rate correlation of biaxial tension and compression mechanical properties of HTPB and NEPE propellants

An effective biaxial tension and compression test method is proposed based on the shortcomings of current research for mechanical properties solid propellants under complex stress states. The equal proportion HTPB (Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene) NEPE (NitrateEster Plasticized Polyether) performed at different rates while room temperature, damage morphology tension–compression zone analyzed using micro-CT. results show that failure mode propellant loading similar to uniaxial tension. Meanwhile, compressive strength much greater than tensile strength, which will eventually cause failure. With an increased rate, growth trend initial modulus, ultimate maximum elongation gradually flattened, degree reduced. Additionally, forms in from dewetting particle fracture matrix tearing. porosity can be used as meso-damage parameter propellant.
